Why rural areas should be turned into “Arrival Regions”

Structurally weak rural areas are especially affected by the demographic change: aging, out-migration of the young not only lead to depopulation but also negatively affect economic development. International migration, e.g. of refugees and asylum seekers, might be a solution. However, integrating these newcomers into rural societies and labor markets is challenging for both sides. Nevertheless, there are promising approaches to solutions, which we would be happy to discuss with you!
